Anime Expo wrapped up in LA on July 5th, and if you weren't one of the lucky ones standing in the exhibit hall line at 8am, first: we feel your pain. Second: don't panic. A good chunk of what dropped at AX either restocks online, ships from preorder, or shows up on the secondary market within weeks - you just have to know where to look.
We've been doom-scrolling con recap posts for a week straight (research, obviously, purely research) and pulled together the five pieces from this year's AX lineup that are living in our brains rent-free. Grab a coffee, collector to collector, let's go through the list.
1. The Kadokawa 10th Anniversary line (Re:Zero, KONOSUBA, Bungo Stray Dogs)
Kadokawa went all out for their 10-year mark with early-release exclusives across three of their biggest franchises. If you missed the booth, keep an eye on official storefronts over the next month - anniversary runs like this almost always get a wider release wave once the con-exclusive batch clears out.
2. Bocchi the Rock! bishoujo figures
Bocchi merch has been on an absolute tear all year and AX only poured gasoline on it. The newest figure wave leans into the band-practice aesthetic instead of just the "core" nervous-Bocchi pose, which honestly might be the better shelf piece.
3. Ghost in the Shell figures (yes, still, always)
Ghost in the Shell doesn't need a resurgence because it never left, but this year's figure lineup is aimed squarely at people who've been waiting since the original OVA for a Kusanagi piece that actually does the character justice. Preorder windows on these tend to close fast.
4. Girls' Frontline 2 figures
If your shelf has been missing a tactical doll or two, this is the wave to watch. Girls' Frontline 2 merch is still relatively easy to find compared to the older-franchise grails on this list, which makes it a solid pickup if you're building a collection rather than chasing a single piece.
5. Solo Leveling plush
Not everything on a collector's shelf needs to be a $150 resin figure. The Solo Leveling plush wave has been one of the most-preordered soft goods of the summer, and it's the easiest "yes" on this whole list if you want AX energy without the AX price tag.
Didn't make it to AX this year? You're in good company - most of us are shopping this from our couches too. Drop a comment with what you're still hunting for, we're always down to help track something down or swap notes on where it popped back up in stock.
