We remember publishing multiple Hunter x Hunter comeback theories and even announcements. Over twelve years of maintaining this blog just to write about one of our most favorite anime series, here we are again talking about Togashi rising from the ashes — that’s purely metaphoric, of course.
This week, we woke up to news and tons of notifications regarding HXH coming back with Volume 39, to be released on July 4, 2026, and chapter 411 to resume on June 28, 2026. Another bigger update for fans of Yoshihiro Togashi’s masterpiece is that this tankobon volume signals a very possible renewal with Weekly Shonen Jump.
Lots of questions surface around this, and we’ll quickly address those Hunter x Hunter manga and anime continuation questions that are incredibly easy to answer, because the info is just a search away, and there may be a few publications we already wrote about them:
Is Hunter x Hunter 2026 Going To Be A Weekly Release?
If you’ve sat around for quite a while waiting for every latest Hunter x Hunter release only for it to go back into hiatus after a few weeks of publications, you know the answer to this question.
For the benefit of those who are unaware of Yoshihiro Togashi’s hiatus pattern and the recent talks that HXH will not abide by the traditional publication format, it’s generous to say that there is a 50-50 chance it would be a weekly release.
However, now that we are seeing Hisoka Morow's face (instead of Gon Freecss again) in Weekly Shonen Jump, Shueisha may have likely decided to adopt a modified release. Given Togashi’s health condition, this is the best move to preserve the mangaka’s life while keeping the fans happy.
How’s Togashi Doing? Any Updates About The Mangaka’s Health?
Speaking of his health, Yoshihiro Togashi has a long battle history with chronic back pain. Fortunately, the Hunter x Hunter author had successful surgeries and was able to manage this hurdle, leading to a more stable condition. With his improved posture, he was able to continue his manga production.
Apart from maintaining an active manga production, Togashi was spotted at some events with his wife, Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailormoon. He also mentioned in tweets from his personal X (formerly Twitter profile) that her tons of encouragement kept him motivated. There were also rumors that Takeuchi was helping with Hunter x Hunter manga production, but we don't have the specifics of this detail.

How About The Hunter x Hunter 2011 Anime? Or Will It Be A Hunter x Hunter 2026 Anime?
We get it that we're all excited. But most of us are full-grown adults now who are familiar with the current dynamics surrounding the most-wanted anime series. While this is a huge step toward a continuation, it's still too early to say something about an anime comeback. Still, we won't be surprised if there are talks happening in the shadows.
Whether VIZ will continue the animation is no longer the biggest concern. The elephant in the room now is how many weeks we are getting before it goes on hiatus again.
OR is it going to be THIS?
Nothing wrong with keeping our hopes up.

HxH Vol 29 Jump Comics’ Creepy New Volume Cover Of Hisoka
Now, let’s talk about the volume cover that initially leaked just a few hours ago.
If you needed proof that Togashi still has full control of where this story is going, the Volume 39 cover says it without a single word of explanation:
Hisoka, hands scarred, fingers marked with the number 39, staring at you with that expression that never means anything good for whoever he's thinking about.
The Japanese text running down the left side — "ore to ore to ore to ore!!" — is already sending us and the rest of the fanbase into full theory mode, and for good reason.
Multiple Hisokas, a fractured presence, something tied to whatever Togashi has been building around him since the Heavens Arena fallout. The "ore to ore" framing suggests a duality or split that goes beyond a simple rematch setup. Whatever Togashi is setting up here, the cover alone is doing narrative work before the next issue.
I’d also say that at this point, this cover isn’t a teaser.
It’s a FLEX.
It’s a FLEX.
Togashi knows exactly where this is going and is giving us just enough visual information to make the wait feel intentional. For a series that spent years being written off as abandoned, Volume 39 looks like the work of someone who never actually left.
